Support » Fixing WordPress » custom blog link

  • Hello, I had the design and layout tweeked by my graphic designer. He set it up so the blog and all new posts are under the “blog” tab on my site.

There is the home, about us. aquatic services, portfolio, blog and contact us… all of the are pages except the blog tab. I do not know how or what he did to make that work but it does. I would like to have my permalinks set under the custom and make the link the post name. If i change this under settings> permalinks to custom and enter the code /%postname%/ after my url, when i go back to my homepage and click on blog i get a database erros message, unable to connect but all other pages work.

I am assuming it is somewhere in the code that that tab points to and i want it to point to and each post thereafter to its name…

Please help. This is driving me nuts.

My permalinks settings are currently the default

  • do not enter /%postname%/ after your url, only enter /%postname%/ and save – also make sure .htaccess is writable or manually add the rewrite rules.

    on another
WP site i have /%postname%/ under the custom setting. Are you saying to not have it there?
I do enter that at any time except under seo setting.

how do i check to make sure htacess is writable?

how do I check to make sure htaccess is writable?

The easiest way is to ask your webhost.

Or, use an FTP client such as FileZilla to access site folders and files and see permissions, or your host provided File Manager.

Also review with SEO plugin dev. how best to proceed. This may be writing complex SEO rewrite rules…

    this information hasnt helped/
