I have noticed today (after the latest yoast update) that the %currentyear% variable in meta title is not available any more. I have checked this in different websites that I own (different themes etc) and the variable is missing on all of them.

Did yoast SEO removed this variable?

We are afraid to say the relevant template variable has been removed from Yoast SEO as it could be abused easily by using it in the title without even updating the content and as such, it was removed from the plugin.

That said if you’d like you could create your own template variable. You can find the relevant guide here: https://yoast.com/help/list-available-snippet-variables-yoast-seo/#creating-custom

Thanks for reaching out regarding the snippet variables in the Yoast SEO plugin. %%currentyear%% and some related variables have been deprecated as we see no valid use-case for them.
