current_page_item not working on pages with custom template

Hi there. I am totally stumped with this and would be so appeciative if anyone could help.

div.nice_navigation li.current_page_item > a
 {
	color: #a4a4a4 !important;
}

The current_page_item CSS markup I am using above is working fine for all pages except those where I have a custom template. For example on this page http://lynnhershman.com/wp/film the current menu item “Film” does not change color as it should. Whereas pages that have the default template are getting the markup fine, e.g. http://lynnhershman.com/wp/about

Any ideas?
