But the design is only visible inside the dropdown. For the selected currency, only the flag is shown.

Yes, that’s exactly how we did set it up.
The problem is, that often customers do not recognize that the icon is related to currencies and the meaning of this icon is to switch the currency (and thus they don’t bother to move over the field to open the dropdown).
In our case (Switzerland) it’s maybe even it bit harder for the customers, because the flag is square and looks more like a badge or decoration 🙂
So when ever you could provide the option to also show the currency name and/or symbol next to the flag, this would be a great improvement for us.
