Support » Plugin: MSTW CSV EXPORTER » CSV Exporter not working with WP 5.4.2

  • Good evening,

I just realized that I will need to use the League Manager, but already created teams, rosters, venues, schedules, and games. So, I downloaded the MSTW_CSV_Exporter, but when I activated it, I received a message saying critical error. I have tried uploading the plugin using all three methods you have listed in the instructions at your web site. I am using WordPress version 5.4.2. I have screen shots.

You are correct, Exporter is DOA with newer versions of WordPress. I haven’t fixed it because it’s not being used (you’re the first to mention the breakage, which has been around for a while). My plan is to delete it and add the export function to each individual plugin. So if you could tell me which plugin you are trying to export data FROM to load into MSTW League Manager, and what data you are trying to import (rosters are not part of League Manager) I will see how to get things working for you.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Anyway, I am trying to export team, schedules, venues, and game data from MSTW Schedules and Scoreboards. I began putting together the csv files for each using the instructions that you have on your web site, but only entered a few entires into the team csv.

    Greg,
Unfortunately, I don’t spend much time on S&S because it has been replaced with League Manager. But I do keep it working because enough people still use it. So let me have a look at it. It might be possible to use the built-in WordPress Export/Import functions, or it might be possible to fix CSV Exporter for these data sets. Give me a couple of days to check it out.
    Stay tuned,

    Hi Greg,
Sorry for taking so long, but ….

I just released version 1.3 of MSTW CSV Exporter, which seemed to be the path of least resistance. I tested with S&S -> League Manager and Team Rosters 4.0+ -> Team Rosters 4.0+. Everything seemed to work across my development machines. Hopefully this solves your problem.

    Hi Mark,

No need to apologize for taking too long. I understand that you are busy. Anyway, I tried out the new MSTW CSV Exporter version, and it worked fine. It launched with no errors, I was able to export my data, and I was able to get most of it imported. There were only three problems. One major one, and two minor ones.

1.) When I tried to import the Games data into the League Manager, I received an error message saying:

    Import CSV Files
Skipped 21 games (most likely due to empty title.)

Imported 0 games to database in 0.00 seconds.

I have put my league together, and it is made up of four divisions. Not all the games are for the division that I tried to import to. What does the message, “most likely due to empty title” mean? Is the database import looking for a specific piece of data?

2.) When I imported all the teams, the MSTW League Manager indicated that all of them imported into the system ok, but some of them didn’t appear right away. I had to literally search for them. There were about 10 out of the 30 teams I had that were “missing”. However, upon the search, I was able to locate them.

3.) When I imported the teams into the League, the team colors were not imported. I think the data for the colors should be added as a field so that the colors are imported as well. Just a suggestion that could save users time.

One other question that I have is do I have to create a new league every team the leagues change alignment. In other words, I have a couple teams that were in my Blue Division last year, and are now in my White Division. It is quite common for this to happen periodically in New Jersey High School Sports. I guess I would have to make a new division or league for that particular alignment cycle, and add the appropriate teams for those new leagues?

Also, as far as the player rosters go, do I have to create a new player for each year’s roster even if the player has played at the school the previous year, or for say two or three years? Let me know. Thanks.

Thank you for your help with this. It is coming along. Starting to see some progress.

I’m glad to here we made some progress.

    1. I’m not sure. Please send me a copy of the CSV file and I’ll take a look.

    2. I don’t quite understand what you are trying to tell me.

    3. COLORS. That’s a good idea. I believe the Exporter might have been written before the team colors were added, I’m not sure. But honestly I’m not a big fan of the way I implemented Team Colors in Team Rosters. I don’t believe they are used in League Manager where all the front end displays support robust color set-up using CSS rules. I’ve been re-thinking the color thing for some time, and I doubt I’ll find a “perfect” answer. We’ll see.

DIVISIONS. Short answer, no, you can move teams across leagues. The longer answer is that League Manager offers great flexibility to manage teams across three groupings – leagues, conferences, and divisions. Think NFL, NFC, and NFC West. You can designate games as league or non-league. League games can be conference and or division games. How you choose to set things up depends on what you want to display in terms of schedules and standings. For example, you can display conference and division games in schedules and conference and division records in standings. There’s a video tutorial on this on the shoalsummitsolutions.com website, that’s available to Gold Support members.

    Hi Mark,

Again sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have been working on entering rosters in the system either manually or via import. So far, I have 192 rosters with a total of nearly 2,800 players.

I will be sending you a copy of the Games and schedule .csv files soon. I did follow the structure that you had set up in your example files though.

    Greg
