    Hi,
We are working in our localhost and with the in-built csv import/export feature.
We prepared a variable product with variations and then downloaded a csv file.
That csv file shows the variable product with its variations.
To test the import feature, we prepared in the csv file 2 more parent products with their variations. For the images instead of uploading them to wp, we dropped them in the uploads folder. Our settings are not to enable creation of date folders from images.
The import feature got stuck uploading the file (circle spinning).
So we tried again uploading a new csv file with just the variable products (parents) without variations.
It also gets stuck with the spinning circle.

    Are we missing something?

    Thanks.

  • These are my notes for importing products via the built-in csv, I have done nearly 17000 in the last couple of months, many of them variable.

•Don’t put the ID in – the importer can just use the SKU
•Do all work in Excel and then save as Comma Deliminated CSV (CSVs are quirky to work in)
•Just put image name in correct image column – not a url link – this will work great as long as images are uploaded to media in same month as uploading csv import file
•To save as UTF-8 – in Excel Save screen at bottom is ‘Tools’ with a dropdown. Choose web options -> Unicode (UTF-8)
    •Upload images to media library
    •Import CSV
    •Double check mapping screen
•Wait until the importer is finished – do not refresh or touch the browser while in progress

    Yes that worked.
We still have some issues with importing product variation gallery images. We’ll open another thread for that.

    Thanks!
