CSS problems with ‘pre’ tag in different browsers

  • Hi all,

    I’m trying to make ‘pre’ tags work normally in my WP blog in order to post code. I made a sample post to display the various problems: http://eli.thegreenplace.net/2007/06/02/pre-tags-annoyance/

    At the moment, my CSS for pre is:

    pre {
    	font: 1.1em 'Courier New', Courier, Fixed;
     	color: Navy ;
    	background: Ivory ;
    	width: 450px ;
    	border: 1px solid #959596;
    	overflow: auto ;}

    When I didn’t have the “width” directive, IE 6 would just ignore overflow all together and show the lines in ‘pre’ at full length, completely ruining my layout.

    Did anyone have success making overflow of pre tags work on both IE6 and Firefox, at least ?

    TIA
