 * Autoptimize worked well for many months. About a month ago I noticed my PageSpeed,
   as well as my Google ranking and traffic, fell drastically.
    Autoptimize is now
   not combining CSS files. I added Autoptimize Criticalcss and can’t get it to
   work until Autoptimize combines the CSS files. My site is [https://smallkitchenappliancesforyou.com](https://smallkitchenappliancesforyou.com)

 * Hey esteadmc563;
    I had a look at the page source and there is no sign of Autoptimize
   being active at all, so it is likely you have a plugin conflict (introduced about
   a month ago?) that is stopping AO from working. Best way forwards would be to
   selectively disable plugins (and briefly switch theme) to find the culprit.
 * Feel free to follow up on this here, always interested in what causes conficts!
 * Kind regards,
    frank

 * Hi Frank,
 * I have all plugins deactivated except Async JavaScript, Autoptimize, Autoptimize
   CriticalCSS Power-Up, and ShortPixel Image Optimizer. All of these are supposed
   to work together and were added in the last couple of days, except Autoptimize
   which worked before.
 * My theme is Twenty-Seventeen and should also play nice with Autoptimize.
 * It still doesn’t autoptimize CSS files.
 * Traffic is very light and the fundamentals are working, so I’ll leave it as is
   until you can have another look.
 * Thanks,
    Ed

 * weird …
 * I see
 * `<script src="//smallkitchenappliancesforyou.com/hashcash.js" type="text/javascript"
   ></script>`
 * at the very bottom of your HTML source, any idea what is inserting that?

 * No idea.
    When I Google “hashcash.js” it appears to be a spam blocker. WA server
   has a built-in spam blocker that I can’t turn off. Do you think it might be blocking
   AO?

 * > Do you think it might be blocking AO?
 * The script itself; no, but the way it is added to the HTML makes is plausible
   this is done using the output buffer (see [http://php.net/manual/en/book.outcontrol.php](http://php.net/manual/en/book.outcontrol.php))
   and that the way this is done could conflict with AO’s use of the output buffer.
   Can you check with WA (which is your hoster I suppose)?

 * WA help advised that their built-in SiteSpeed feature adds the hashcash.js file.

   It already caches, combines and minifies Javascript and CSS. I tried turning
   off their SiteSpeed and using AO alone but got “not found” errors trying to access
   plugins. I can’t even get to AO to work with it. The good news is that deactivating
   AO and turning SiteSpeed on, PageSpeed is happy. My score is 90 and the recommended“
   Opportunity” is to Defer offscreen images to save 0.9s With SiteSpeed turned
   on and AO activated, my PageSpeed scores are in the 60s. Sorry but I will have
   to delete AO. I believe it is a great product and your support is amazing. Thanks
   for all your help. Ed

 * wow, that sitespeed feature seems invasive; is breaks your site when turned off
   and breaks AO when turned on?

 * Well, that’s not bad 🙂
