 * Dear supporters,
 * I managed to restore a backup of my website after a wordpress update messed up
   my css lay-out. I want to update wordpress again but how can I do this without
   facing the same problem again?

 * How were you editing your CSS? If you edited the theme’s files directly. those
   changes get lost whenever the theme is updated. Instead, WordPress 4.7 includes
   a built-in custom CSS editor at Dashboard > Appearance > Customize > Additional
   CSS, or you could use a custom CSS plugin or a child theme.

   back? (i use the css in the dashboard appearance area)

 * Yes, but if you’re making substantial changes, you’re probably better off making
   a [child theme](https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/advanced-topics/child-themes/).
   The built-in custom CSS editor is better for minor changes.
