Support » Fixing WordPress » Cropped Thumbnail, not Featured Image

  • 1) I upload images for a post and create a gallery.
    2) I re-crop one image thumbnail using WP’s internal “edit image” capabilities
    3) I then choose that image to be the “featured image”

BUT! The re-cropped thumbnail does not appear on the site as the featured image. The thumbnail that WordPress automatically creates during the upload process appears instead. The re-cropped image DOES appear in the gallery, though.

I want to be able to crop the featured thumbnail image using WordPress’s image editing tools. Is this possible? I have tried it in many different ways and many different orders but so far it does not work.

    thank you for you time

  • Yep, I just discovered the same problem. The edit image functionality is really handy for users who might struggle with cropping photos before uploading, but it would be great if it would affect the featured images too!

Featured images are theme-specific, so it would be difficult to add something to the core that would deal with it. An alternative option would be to use post thumbnails instead.
