Support » Plugin: BackWPup - WordPress Backup Plugin » Cron Event is always “now”

  • Hello, BackWPUp authors

I’d like to report a bug. Similar problem was reported earlier, but was closed due to inactivity of the topic author, but the problem is still there. Here it is:

After plugin is installed, there is a Cron Event set to “now” all the time (instead of 14 days, as it is supposed to be).

Here are the details of that cron event:
    Hook name: inpsyde_phone-home_checkin
    Action: Inpsyde_PhoneHome_CronController->run()
    File: wp-content/plugins/backwpup/vendor/inpsyde/phone-home-client/src/CronController.php:66

I used “WP Crontrol” plugin to see all the cron events.

Problem seen on 2 completely independent systems (different Hosting provides, OSs).
On WordPress versions 4.8 and 4.9.

I tried manually commented out the part that sets cron job in that file, and the problem went away, so yes, it is there.

I don’t think it has a huge impact on anything, maybe an extra empty internal cron request from WP to itself every time WP displays a page/post. But it is just annoying to know it is there.

    Thank you.

    Hi @mitya1980
Hmm, I’m not sure but I don’t think it is an issue, since inpsyde_phone-home_checkin cron event run every two weeks, please check the screenshot here:

    Hi duongcuong96,

    Thank you for your reply.

I still think this is an issue. When I check the list of Cron Tasks, inpsyde_phone-home_checkin’s next run is “now”. If I check it again in 10 minutes, next run is again “now”. Whereas, if things go as they should, next run should be at least in “13 days 23 hours 50 minutes”.

Which means instead of running inpsyde_phone-home_checkin once in 14 days, it is being initiated with every WP pageview. (after 10 minutes, note how all tasks are 10 minutes closer, those that had been executed disappeared. Except inpsyde_phone-home_checkin, which is again “now”).

In your screenshot you have a bunch of overdue cron tasks (I am guessing Development environment with no traffic?). If you view enough site pages to let cron catch up on old tasks, you’ll probably see the same behaviour.

Let me know what you think.

I’m seeing an issue with this also. I have a plugin that schedules one time cron events. But with BackWPup active, the inpsyde_phone-home_checkin is scheduled and our cron is not. This cron is causing conflicts and preventing our cron from being scheduled.
