I’ve just updated two sites with very big DBs to latest WP4.2. On both sites the DB upgrade times out and when I try to login to the admin I get the upgrade notice again, which prevents me to actually using my dashboard. Please help.

PS: I did all that was indicated here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/read-this-first-%e2%80%93-wordpress-42-master-list?replies=5#post-6860958 (great idea this Master list) but still getting the repeated upgrade DB screen..

    75k posts in db.

    Hi,

Even after doing the cleaning, with 75k posts that’s a pretty large database, are you in a shared hosting environment or running this on a different setup (like a VPS or similar)?

    Hi,

yes it is. Running on a cloud site service – VPS.net (the premium plan).
No issues so far.. and obviously, I’ve already notified them about the connection time out.

No ideea how to solve this one.

    Regards,

Aaaand.. here’s what’s causing the timeout: ALTER TABLE wp_posts DROP INDEX post_name, ADD INDEX post_name(post_name(191))
    Doesn’t sound right does it?

Problem fixed by the hosting service provider with a manually performed MySQL query (directly on the server).

Yeah it would have timed out with that many posts, unfortunately that can happen due to various settings on shared environments but the hosts can usually solve it (as in this case).

Glad you got it sorted and are back up and running !
