I am running Windows 10 64 bit Home edition. I am running Bitnami Xampp with PHP version 7 in it. I have been running WordPress version 6.01, with the latest updated version of the (free Elementor plugin). If further details are needed in order to proceed, please respond back.

I am experiencing a critical bug in the free version of the WordPress Backup & Migration plugin, which appears to be the most size efficient WordPress website backup and restore plugin that I can find for free on the WordPress plugins database. I have taken screenshots of all that is happening, if someone can send me some electronic details that I can post them to.

What is happening is that the Import (“Restore”) phase is failing, via a successful upload of a (free WordPress Backup & Migration) .zip backup archive file which doesn’t look like it has any errors.

When the Upload is complete, a new notifying window is raised to the foreground, that gets to the message ‘File has fetched from the server, now importing the file….’ .At this point, everything silently drops out, and the misspelled error message, in red, is put in the top left corner:

‘Somehting went wrong! Can’t open zip file.’

by which point the import crashes, and the plugin fails to work to restore the website inside the backup .zip file.

I have not lost my website, because I have it successfully backed up via a different backup plugin that does work. However that plugin is not size efficient enough for what I need it to do with WordPress itself.

I need this plugin particularly to work, because the resulting backup and restore back things much smaller, for capacity’s sake. Can someone reply to me on this, fix this bug, and get the free version of this plugin running under these circumstances, so that I can use it at all?

Is there anyone involved with this plugin, particularly the free version of this plugin, who can stop its import phase crashing, but means of its own legitimate archive files? Otherwise the free version is useless, and it certainly doesn’t bode well for the premium pay version! 🙂

    Hi @sergio02,

    Thank you for reaching out.

We understand that you are facing issues while importing the backup zip. Let’s take a look at how we can fix this together. The identified issues for such cases are:

    1. The backup zip might be corrupted: You can manually extract the zip file on your computer and make sure that the zip file is extracting properly.
    2. Folder permission restriction: Our plugin extracts the backup file to the wp-content folder. Please make sure that the wp-content folder has the write permission.

Check it in that way and let us know how it goes.

I have created a backup and downloaded it as the file 2022-08-12-12-20-34pm.zip .
I have unzipped the contents and inspected them, no problem. I have changed the read and write permissions on the wordpress internal subdirectory, wp-content.

I have already made the appropriate changes stipulated at

    https://www.webtoffee.com/increase-maximum-upload-file-size-in-wordpress-migrator/ .

In fact I have set them higher, for 5120 MB, 5 GB. I have gotten the green tick in the middle of the Import area, telling me ‘Uploaded Completed’. Now, if I click the blue button to the lower right named ‘Import’, I get the following error message that I have select-highlighted and pasted directly in here,

Somehting went wrong! Can’t open zip file.

which is exactly the same problem as before. The zip file seems fine, since the plugin itself just wrote it. Do you guys have any idea what’s going wrong, so that I can finished Importing, and then Restore, with no errors and all success with your free plugin, here, please?

Is there anyone involved with this plugin who can help stop its import phase crashing, by means of its own legitimate archive files? I need the small archive size that this plugin should work with to shrink the total size of my wordpress folder, before online uploading!

I didn’t understand your email. What is the present story about bugs and file size limits and upload and restore with your free plugin here, at the moment? What exactly did you send in my email, since I’m not sure I received one and that the transmission didn’t get lost in internet land?
