First off, I’m completely new to creating child themes – the one I’m trying to create now is my very first attempt. So go easy on me! I’ve read the Codex Child Themes instructions on, and I’ve watched a couple of YouTube videos, but am still a little unsure (it’s always the filing that confuses me!)

    I’m using a WPZoom theme – ‘Manifesto’.

In my public files, under themes, I have a new ‘Manifesto-child’ folder, and in this I have copied a duplicate style.css file and put the required info at the top.

When I go back to the themes page in WP, Manifesto is working fine, but I get the following message:

    Broken Themes
The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.
    Name Description
Manifesto Child The parent theme is missing. Please install the “Manifesto by WPZoom” parent theme.

I know this is probably pretty basic stuff, but as a first timer I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong! All advice gratefully received.

    Thanks so much!

  • What is the code in the top of the new style.css file and what is the name on the parent theme folder (caps matter)?

Also, note that the new style.css file should not be a copy of the parent file – it contains ONLY changes to the CSS.

Thanks WPyogi! Perhaps it’s the capital ‘M’ causing the problem – here’s what I have:

    Parent theme file name:

    Top of parent theme:
    Theme Name: Manifesto
    Theme URI:
    Version: 2.2.4
    Author: WPZOOM
    Author URI:
License: GNU General Public License v2.0
    License URI:

    Child theme file name:

    Top of child theme:
    Theme Name: Manifesto Child
Description: Child theme for the Manifesto theme for Calderdale Energy Future
    Author: Beth Maiden
    Template: Manifesto
    Version: 0.1.0

Just changed the capital M to a small one in the child theme text and it’s done the trick!
    Thank you so much.
I’m sure I’ll be posting again in a few minutes…hopefully not though!

Thanks again for the support – this forum is so brilliant for learners like me 🙂
