Creating category database (6 posts)

    Hello,

I'm creating a database of companies in music. Each company is a category, and the information about the company is listed in the category. They need to be categories because I will be having posts written about products that the companies release. Basically I want to be able to list categories based on where the company is based so that people can search for local companies. Something like tagging category pages would be perfect here, but as far as I can tell isn't possible. I will then be allowing people to search companies based on the company location through a series of drop down menus, similar to what you would find on a job search site, or something similar.

Any suggestions on the best way to go about this?

    Thanks,

    Christian

You will need to create your own custom post type to achieve this. This plugin will help you achieve this. http://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-post-type-ui/

@Chris Hardin - could you leave off the signatures?

It's really a pain for us to have to remove them from all of your posts. Thanks. :)!

Hey guys, thanks for the help. Sorry for being a total newb, but how would I go about using the custom post type to achieve this?

Right but i'm just not sure how that would help...Essentially all my problems would go away if a category could have more than one parent. I need a workaround to that. Thanks for your help!
