Creating a template

Hello

When creating a template I get the following notice :

Custom post type notice:
The theme you are using does not contain the “single.php” file in the main theme folder. To use custom templates the theme must have the “single.php” file.
——-
My theme has such file but called : single-item.php
Is there a way for this to create templates.
