I had this problem on another website. Due to my brain injury and amnesia, I’ve forgotten how to fix this.

At the end of the post, I have click <a href=“url”>here</a> to help the viewers.

But, the HTML code is there and not the link. The outlined box of codex like B and <-> don’t have a link choice.

I sort of remember that I was supposed to click something to bring up a box where you pasted in the url and it created the link.

Please help me! I’m tinkering around my website for the box but I need a nudge in the right direction.

There are two ways to create links without needing to modify the code:

    1. Copy the URL you want the link to go to, highlight the text you want to be linked, and then paste the URL.

So, if I wanted “WordPress” to go to https://wordpress.org I’d first copy https://wordpress.org then highlight “WordPress” and paste, and boom the link is created.

    2. In a screenshot at https://wordpress.org/support/article/paragraph-block/#block-toolbar you’ll need something that looks like (-) representing a link in a chain. You can click that in the Paragraph Block, and any block which supports links, to add a link.

Thank you. I’m totally confused now!

Under 1, copy the url from where? I create the url. If I type http://www.Wordpress.org and copy it, then highlight the word, where would I paste it?

On the link that you gave me, “ Insert Hyperlinks

Use the chain link icon to insert a hyperlink to your highlighted text. Or use the CTRL + k (or Command+k) keyboard shortcut.”

I’m on my iPad and can’t use shortcuts. Plus I only have one hand to use my iPad since I’m holding it with one hand. The directions are for Windows’ keyboard I think.

On the paste, you just highlight the words and paste the URL. WordPress will covert it into a link instead of replacing the highlighted words.

Have you considered the iPad app? https://apps.wordpress.com/mobile/

Okay, I tried to get the link by using the (-) chain link. I pasted the words but not the url.

So my link is <a href="//www.Wordpress.org”">WordPress </a>WordPress (clickable)

So, no url is there and if you click on WordPress, nothing happens.

You have to paste the URL. No URL = no link.

The iPad app is great but I use the program installed on my server. The learning curve for the app is not good for me.

I’ll go try highlighting the words but they aren’t there. Just the url and HTML code unless you mean the link words. But I can’t paste in a url if I copy the words. You can only copy one thing to paste.

Okay. I understand you now but I have a problem.

I click after the url and the box comes up for the url. I paste it in but it breaks the line.

I can’t click the last letter before the url because the iPad is not allowing me to do that. It highlights the link that I created instead of text.

    I hope that makes sense.

    Try this:

    1. Copy this: https://wordpress.org

    2. Type this: WordPress

    3. Highlight the “WordPress” you just typed.

    4. Paste

You’ll have “WordPress” which now goes to https://wordpress.org/ when clicked.

I have it working now! Thank you for your help and patience. I had to create another link and delete the original link.

Your way didn’t work. I think that the iPad is different when pasting code.
