Creating a custom page title.

  • I know I could easily “hard code” this but I thought I would just ask to keep the wordpress site as dynamic as possible. When you create a page, for instance lets just say “home” page. You give this page the title of “home” and in the main navigation it says “home” for the link to this page and when you are on that page the title is by default “home”. Is there a way to change what the title on this page. In the navigation its fine but on the actual page it would be nice to change it to something like “welcome!” or something like that. Is this possible?

If you use custom menus (appearance > menus) then you can do this.
You would give your page a title of Welcome! and in the nav, you would rename it home.

I think if you rename a page it shows the new name as page title on the page itself but keeps the original name in the permalink.

If you are not using, or not planning to use custom menus, try the Page menu editor plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/page-menu-editor/
This will allow you to have different text on the page title & the menu link
