    Hi,

I am trying to add a file upload functionality to my woocommerce site using Uploadcare. After correspondence with their support, I know that I need to create a custom field so that the uploaded images can be attached to an order.

I have read this document from Cloudways but need further guidance. Specifically:

    1. Is it possible to create a text custom field and set its role attribute to “uploadcare-uploader”?
    2. If it’s possible, this field will be automatically turned into a widget instance and hold a CDN URL of the uploaded image.
    3. Is it possible to get the field value (CDN URL) on the cart, orders, checkout pages, and render a preview of the image?

    Thanks,
    Sunny

    Hi @54days 👋

At the moment, there’s no default option for that in WooCommerce, and setting that as the default would require quite a bit of additional coding. Please kindly note that this requires some custom coding – which goes beyond the scope of support we are able to provide in this forum.

Just so you know, this is a fairly complex development topic. However, I’m going to leave it open for a bit to see if anyone is able to chime in to help you out.

I can also recommend the WooCommerce Developer Resources Portal for resources on developing for WooCommerce.

You can also visit the WooCommerce Facebook group or the #developers channel of the WooCommerce Community Slack. We’re lucky to have a great community of open-source developers for WooCommerce, and many of our developers hang out there, as well.

If you do require more help with the actual coding, we’d recommend you hire a developer who can take a look at this, quote you for their services, and help you add this feature to your site. We’d recommend getting in touch with a web developer or one of the customization experts listed at https://woocommerce.com/customizations/.

    Cheers.

As said, its unlikely a such support question would get a custom code solution on the forum.

Have you looked at product-addon / product option plugins. These allow you to setup a product with additional fields of various types.

    This one for example:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/yith-woocommerce-product-add-ons/
allows a file upload field. I can’t say whether its right for you.

There are several other free and premium such plugins.

Thank you for the responses. I would like to point out that I did not ask for a custom coding solution. My questions were clearly written for Yes/No replies, and perhaps a little theory to supplement the info in my original post.

@gabrielfuentes I will post in Facebook group as you suggested, and also update this thread once I have the solution.

@lorro thanks for the reply but this is definitely not something a product add-ons plugin could solve. It is a custom field issue; only plugins like Advanced Custom Fields or JetEngine would be relevant. But neither plugin has a feature that allows you to alter the role-attribute of a custom field. That is why the solution must be coded, as per the Cloudways article I linked to in my original post.

Yes, its all open-source, so the things you ask for are possible.

You can check existing plugins at:
    wordpress.org/plugins
    woocommerce.com
    codecanyon.net

My expectaion is that its unlikely there will be something suitable so custom coding would be needed.

    Hi @54days

We’ve not heard back from you in a while, so I’m marking this thread as resolved. If you have further questions, please feel free to open a new topic.

Hi @maykato it will take some time to find a solution as I am not a developer. I think it will be helpful if you could leave the thread open so I can post an eventual solution.

    Hi @54days,

If the purpose is to be able to leave a reply later on, note that you can still post to the thread even when it is marked as resolved.
If there are other reasons, feel free to update the status on the right side of the thread to Not Resolved.

Closed threads are the only ones you cannot post a reply to. It takes quite a while for a thread to be naturally marked as closed as per the forum guidelines.

    Thanks.
