Support » Plugin: Pods - Custom Content Types and Fields » Creating a CPT in Pods Vs Extending an existing one

  • Hi,

I have a custom post type with three additional fields and 3 additional taxonomies.
So i’m trying to decide between:

    1. Creating a new CPT, additional fields and taxonomies in Pods
    Or
    2. Extending the portfolio post type with additional fields and taxonomies created in Pods.

I am using Customizr theme and Pods magic tags for display.

Are there any pros and cons of 1 vs 2 or are both approaches equally good?

Thanks for any advise or guidance.
    Best,
    Apoorv

When you create them in Pods yourself, you have control over their rewrite slugs and taxonomy associations. If you use the ones that already exist, you’d have to modify either what created those original post types and taxonomies to make those changes or deal with only being able to add fields to them.

Thanks. I also realized this after spending hours trying to change slug of Jetpack Portfolio post type :).

Yep, those are registered by those plugins. Sorry, we can’t modify registrations of other plugins, only add post-meta and ‘open’ up their post meta for use within the Pods Templates system. Glad you figured it out 😉
