• hello all,

is there a script that would generate 27 wordpress blogs for my students?

i looked at multi wp, but it still requires each blog be created one by one, and then set up and formatted.

what i’m looking for is a script that would take a list of my 27 student’s names and preferred blog titles (stored in a flat file), and then generate 27 blogs for them, ready to go.

    does such a script exist?

i’m fairly adept at php/perl/shell scripting, so would be happy to modify something close to this.

    thanks!

  • I don’t know what multi WP is, but have you considered looking at multi-user wordpress? http://mu.wordpress.org/

    thanks!

mu still makes blog creation a manual one-at-a-time process.

i am hoping to find something that generates all the blogs automatically, as my fall class always has over 50 students.

i would like to have them show up early on to blogs with thier names on them, and it woul take awhile to do this manually.

Search around here in the forums, I vaguely recall at least one script like that being announced in the last year or so.

Trick is, they’re often used by “sploggers”, so be very careful and examine whatever script you find before running it!

I found one with a quick google search, but I’m somewhat hesitant to link it here…

Probably, there isn’t. So, either they create it for themselves (go to http://wordpress.com and check out for your self: it’s done in second!) or you create for them.
Third option – your write a script that does what you want 🙂

I agree with moshu here on maybe checking out wordpress.com. It is really created with simplicity in mind and would not need you doing anything as it is hosted for you with all upgrades and is constantly adding new features. As well, the students can keep their blogs when they leave and change it to whatever they want after that.

WordPress MU is great if you want to run it locally on the school server or if you have a host that you want to do this with. As well, you control what they have on their blogs without instantly having the world (as wordpress.com is a huge community) know what is on there.

Both wordpress.com and WordPress MU have privacy options which allow the blogs to be private and only seen by members.

I don’t think you will easily come across a (create 50 blogs) script and you might want to do what my wife does. Puts the net up on the blackboard and walks the students through getting a new blog with wordpress.com or on my MU install.

Actually, what I meant was: create a wp.com blog to see how easy and simple it will be for your students… after you install MU 🙂

Why are you posting the same content each time? We can see what you said originally, so why are you repeating yourself?

    It’s annoying.

“what i’m looking for is a script that would take a list of my 27 student’s names and preferred blog titles (stored in a flat file), and then generate 27 blogs for them, ready to go.”

Why not just make the installation part of the exercise? It gives your students added appreciation of the WP platform and only takes a couple of minutes, once you, as the admin, have placed the physical files in (presumably) 27 directories on the server.

    Thanks!
