Really sorry to hear about your experience with Imagify.
Imagify will create some additional images within WordPress but these are with purpose and controlable:
- We create backups by default, in case something goes wrong with optimization. You can delete /wp-content/uploads/backup/ folder if you don’t need them and switch off Backup option in Imagify Settings so these would not be generated again
- We will create NextGen format images (WebP or AVIF) if you activate this in Imagify Settings. You can switch off the option and these will not be generated
There are other image sizes created within WordPress that are not coming from Imagify:
- thumbnails generated by WP itself (including 1536x1536px and 2048x2048px), your theme and/or other plugins
- WordPress scaled image to 2560px if your uploaded image is wider/taller than this value
Please let me know if you noticed any other duplicated image that you suspect is created by Imagify, we are happy to investigate that.
