My .htaccess file was not created upon installation so I created a PHP file on my local computer, named it 1.htaccess, uploaded it to the root of my WordPress folder, and then renamed it to .htaccess. I then changed the permission to 666 and modified my Permalink settings and the changes still won’t write??

  • My webhost said to create the .htaccess file using Wordpad or Notepad and not a .php file…is that right?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Open Notepad.
    Hit the space bar once.
    Save file as whatever.
    Upload file.
    Rename file to .htaccess.
    CHMOD 666.
    Go to permalinks and update.
    That’s it.

Unless your host has security set up to where this is not allowed – in which case I would demand to know why.

FINALLY IT WORKS! Thanks Samboll! Now should I leave the permission on 666, or change it back to 644 after updating my Permalink structure?

    Samboll…you out there?
