    Hi there,

I've trawled through all the related forum topics but can't find an answer to my seemingly unsolvable problem so am hoping a lovely WP expert can help me :)

I'm trying to design a few sites for people that already have existing websites. I need to design them offline so it doesn't mess up their existing websites etc but can't find a way to do this on a Mac. I can't use MAMP because my Mac is three years old and they don't cator this my OS. Serious sad face.

I've downloaded XAMPP but it apparently won't install properly on my Mac - my lucky day? Is there some kind of online product I can use, perhaps something like the Windows Platform http://www.microsoft.com/web/gallery/install.aspx?appid=WordPress.

Sorry I'm a bit new to all of this having only design about 10 wordpress sites so far - all of which have been new sites so have just built them straight to live online.

Would love any help! Thanks so much.

You can setup a subfolder install on a site:

What version of OSX are you running, even 3 year-old ones come with Apache and php5 as part of OSX, so you can use that rather than MAMP. You need to activate it in "System Preferences", and you need to install MySQL locally, you can get a nice binary package for MySQL on OSX here:

How about install https://www.virtualbox.org/ on your mac and then install your favorite version of linux inside virtualbox.
