Seeing the same thing. The option to create a poll is no longer there, WordPress 5.8.
Three plugins broke GD Topics Polls:
Kali Forms
Countdown Timer Ultimate
BBP Style Pack
I can’t reproduce the problem on my end. My plugin depends on the bbPress actions being run properly, and bbPress user roles set properly. If you use plugins that mess with either of these, the plugin might not work properly.
It works fine on WordPress 5.7.x and previous. So presumably it’s something that is broken by changes to 5.8. Furthermore, none of the other plugins I use break when I upgrade to version 5.8. So one would assume that this is an issue with GD Topic Polls.
I will see if there have been recent updates to those three plugins that fix the issue, and I will report back.
I updated to the latest version of WordPress again, version 5.8.1, and experienced the same issue.
Nevermind, you can ignore this post. I thought the user roles displayed in the GD Topic Polls settings were not the bbpress roles, but they are.

The issue is related to the PaidMembership plugin (and maybe to some other plugins that deal with roles), and there is nothing I can do to fix the issue. A month ago, PaidMembership plugin (roles) was fixed, and should be OK now.
Version 1.6 adds new method to check if user can create the poll, it can be controlled via settings.
