I am using Storefront child theme. I want to create an indicative link in “description” on a product category edit page to allow someone on the category page to switch to another page (of text) in order to read a brief history of the category (in this case, Vintage Cars). I don’t want to clutter the category page itself with this text (as can be seen with other categories which I similarly want to change). After reading the text on the other page (if they want to) they can return to the category page via an indicative LINK on the text page (that link is straightforward). But I need help to learn how to put a link on a category page in the first place.

  • Would it be okay to have the extra text expand when it is clicked.
I’ve used the Collapse-o-matic plugin. Maybe you could use this in the product category description instead of creating a new page.

Interesting idea. I would prefer a new page but will consider this.Thank you for your reply.

I’ve downloaded it (Collapse-o) and had a look but one has to understand code to use this so it does not help. But thanks for the thought.

I can now answer my own question after extensive searching and finding a most helpful tutorial from Pootlepress (which does not involve using any code): You cannot place a link in WP category but you can create a page that replaces and substitutes for the category: 1. Add new page; 2. Insert whatever text, background etc you like (including LINKS); 3. Add your products to the page using Woo Commerce Blocks > “Products by Category” 4. set the number of columns and rows to suit your products (on each category page, which is useful) 5. Update 6. Redirect LINK from each Category to each new page (I used Rank Math [free] > “Redirections”).
Many thanks to Pootlepress tutorial explaining this in detail on https://vimeo.com/336373979
Am now trying to sort out breadcrumbs!
