Support » Fixing WordPress » Create generic custom fields

  • Hi guys. Apologies if this is already somewhere on support/codex. I’ve been googling various search terms and can’t quite find what I’m after.

I want to create some custom fields in my theme. I’m using Advanced Custom Fields elsewhere, but this only allows me to add fields to posts, pages etc.

I want to store some generic information (phone number, email address, social account links) that I can then use throughout the site. I’d like to use these both as shortcodes e.g [phonenumber] and also as an echo to output it in places like the header, footer etc.

Ideally this would be stored in a separate left-menu section of the dashboard. Maybe “Company Info” or something.

How can I do this? I would rather not use a plugin as I’m trying to learn and also use less downloadable stuff.

I can’t work out what to search for in order to add a generic custom fields section. I can only find custom field info for posts.
