Support » Theme: discover » Create child theme

  • I’m trying to create a child theme for Discover so that I can modify the code safely, but my usual method isn’t working, and I think it might be because it’s filed differently to other themes where I’ve done this.

Is there a special method for doing this and can anyone explain how I go about this?

    Thanks so much!

  • Hi Pedalkraft,

To create a child theme you can use this plugin:

And you can watch the video tutorial about how to use this plugin at:

    Thanks Shinjing, I’ll try that.
Any idea how to do it manually? It’s bugging me that that I can’t seem to manage it with this theme, and I’d like to work out why and how.
I should add I’m pretty new to child themes – have only done four or five so far.

    HI Pedalkraft,

You can read this tutorial to create a child theme manually:

    Thanks Shinjing.

As I said, I have done it before (I learned how from the information you link to above and have successfully managed this a few times now), it just doesn’t seem to be working for Discover specifically. I was just trying to find out if anyone knew a reason why it might work slightly differently for Discover.

    Will keep plugging away 🙂

    Thanks for your help anyway!

I also cannot get the child theme for Discover ( I have Pro version) to work. As a work around I am using the Appearance–>Theme Options–>Custom CSS to add custom CSS.

It’s possible that the theme won’t work with a child theme – some themes won’t.
