Create archive page with Twenty Eleven Theme

  • Hello, I have a trouble creating an archive page using twenty eleven theme.
I try to add a new page, but I can’t select in drop down attributes box archive template. Any suggestions?

    Best regards Michele

your description is not detailed enough for any suggestion other than to have a look at http://codex.wordpress.org/Pages#Page_Templates

If Michele is having the same problem as me then here is my description of the problem.

I want to add an archive or sitemap page to my menu. I see there is an archive.php in the files for the theme. However, when I go to Add New Page, title it Archives then go to Page Attributes to the left (this is detailed in the codex by the way to add an archive template but this theme already has one — why replace it??), all that is available to choose from is the following: Default Template, Showcase Template, and Sidebar template. There is not “archive template” option. Any suggestions?

by the way I thought Michele’s question was pretty clear.
