Create a second template in Blog

  • we Have a website (html) and we use wordpress for our blog. I had the idea to create aother blog for the letters we get in. Readers could post a letter to the editor on our letters blog. How would I do that?

  • Are you asking how to set up a second blog, or how to allow readers to post to it?

For the former, multiple blog installation info and instructions can be found here:

For the latter, it depends on how you want to let them post. First a warning that opening up a blog to what are effectively anonymous posters opens the doors to a number of risks, such as spam and issues of security.

The simplest method would be to create a guest login/password that you make public, but it’s smarter to allow anyone to register, and under Options > Writing set Newly registered members to either ‘May submit drafts for review’ or ‘May publish articles’. More information on this can be found here.

If you wanted to manage it all through a single blog (that is, your current one), you could incorporate the above and set up a “letters” category, which you could restrict users of a certain level to with a plugin like Limit Categories.
