Then, is it still possible when the user types the text that matches the tag I created, and I set the tag to noindex?
That means, is it possible for users to find my post using the tag in my post that he typed, even though the tag is marked as noindex?
    Thank you

@mushlih Setting the tag archive page to noindex would prevent the page from being indexed in Google search results. But from within your site the user could still locate the tag archive page from the tag.

I mean, if I create tags at my post so that when a visitor types the text that matches my tag he can find my post, then I set the tag to noindex, can the user still find the post that I have tagged if he writes at search engines with the appropriate writing in the tag that I made in the post?
    Thank you

If you set a tag page noindex, that specific tag page will drop from the Google search results. However, all the posts that are assigned to the relevant tag will still appear in the Google search results as expected.

Yes, I don’t mean the tag page that appears on Google, but the post I tagged it if a visitor types according to that tag, can my post with that tag (not the tag page) appear at search engine?

    Hi @mushlih,

Your post can appear in search results even if the tag page is set to noindex. If the robots meta tag for the post is set to “index”, search engines will be able to show it.

I mean, if the user types the tag that I created, can my posts with that tag appear?

    Hi,

Google will scan your post or page and use what it finds for indexing and ranking. It is possible that if a user enters in the tag, individual posts with that tag could appear in Google and ranked where you want. It is also possible that Google will not.

You can increase the chances of a post appearing by optimizing the post for that keyword. So you would tag the post with that tag word and then use that tag word to optimize the post. Yoast will toss out colored notifications and you will need to work to resolve those.

However, you should only use each keyword once (so no other posts can be optimized for that tag-word) and you will likely need to noindex that tag page or else you run into keyword cannibalization and confuse Google in regards to which page should rank. This guide explains more:https://yoast.com/keyword-cannibalization/

    Hi,

While we can’t guarantee that Google will rank those pages for the tags as Yosat is only a tool that can help with ranking. We can say that to increase the chances you would need to optimize the page for that tag. So if you have page and tagged it as “Sports”. That tag would become the keyword and you would then need to optimize the page around that keyword.

You would need to be sure also noindex those tag pages. This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/help/how-do-i-noindex-urls/.

You will also need to be sure you select the right keywords to optimize the post/page around. This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/focus-keyword/. Depending on your set-up you may need to consider long-tail keywords too: https://yoast.com/focus-on-long-tail-keywords/.

    Okay thank you very much
However, do I have to set the tag page to no index only, or do I remove the tag archive?

    Hi,

Do you mean to say that if you set the tag to ‘noindex’ or not to show in the search results, that the user will still be able to input the exact URL in your browser and access it? If so, then, yes, you should still be able to access the URL even if it is set to ‘noindex’.

    (@mushlih)

I mean is the tag page just set to noindex? or set to be inaccessible?

    Hi @mushlih,

Just to reassure you, the noindex setting only affects the tag archive page and doesn’t block visitors from being able to access any page or post on your site.

If you’re worried that noindex on tag archive pages will impact the ranking of your posts, this is something that we’re not able to answer for you since that depends on many factors specific to your site. In addition to the articles we’ve already suggested about noindex, it may help to look at articles about site structure and the pros and cons of using tags starting here: Taxonomy SEO: How to optimize your categories and tags for Google.

We always want to be sure that we understand your questions and give you clear answers. If you have any further questions about tags and noindex, it may help us if you can send us example URLs that show the problem or create a new forum topic.
