crateing specific template files for specific custom post types

  • when looking for articles on on crating template files for specific custom post types all i can find is how to define your custom post types in you functions file. What i want to is have a my “shows” (custom post type) display differently to a normal post.

i can view one of my shows buy looking at this URL:
    http://localhost:8888/stomp-wp/shows/daily-swim/

“daily-swim” is the slug for the post and “shows” is the custom post type if i go to http://localhost:8888/stomp-wp/shows i don’t get a list of my shows

this is my permalink structure: /%postname%/

i know that is a few questions but i just want pointing the right direction for an article on developing themas for costume post types
