Car Demon is causing my site to reach CPU usage limit causing host to throttle its performance. When I disabled it, the site takes barely 2% to 10% CPU but when Car Demon is activated, I reach 99% three to four times a day. I really love this plugin so any guidance would be appreciated.

    Hi,

Sorry to hear you’re running into an issue. There’s a few different things that might be happening. We know the vehicle tag widget can be a CPU hog if you have a large inventory. If you’re using that widget you might try removing it to see if that helps.

Other than that Car Demon generally works like a standard custom post type, which shouldn’t be giving you an issue.

It’s possible that someone is actively spidering (or scraping) your inventory when it’s activated. You’ll need to take a close look at your logs and see if you’re getting a heavy amount of traffic onto your inventory pages when the CPU spikes occur. If this is the case then you might be able to block the offending IP addresses.

If you’re using any of our commercial add-ons please contact us directly on our website so we can double check those items as well.

Start with looking into the logs a little deeper and hopefully that’ll shed some light on the issue.

    Best wishes,

Oh wow such a quick response. That is wonderful, most answers on plug in pages go unanswered. Sorry I’m a newbie, where do I go to look at the logs. Haven’t updated the inventory for a while now. When we first installed the plugin, we had added a few cars but after that got very busy with some shippings and lost momentum and never got around.

You actually lucked out on the timing. We almost never visit these forums. Usually only for a week or so after we release an update. It’s generally faster to contact us directly on our website. But I just happened to hop by the page today and saw you had just posted so I wanted to try to reach out as quick as possible.

As for your logs, you’ll need to contact your webhost for more information on where they’re located. They might even be able to give you more detailed information on exactly what’s happening when the CPU tops off. My personal suspicion is it’s heavy traffic from someone trying to scrape data or another PlugIn that affects custom post types. Either way your webhost can help point you in the right direction on the logs and hopefully let you know what’s happening when those spikes occur.

    Best wishes,
