[resolved] CPT and Compatibility with Add Link To FaceBook (5 posts)

This is not a "something is broken post" but it is something for users to be aware of:

If users have a plugin which takes an action based on adding custom content types, TablePress has a custom post type called tablepress_table be aware.

If users of Table Press are also using the plugin Add Link to Facebook (with over 1 million downloads) and they convert to TablePress from WP-Table Reloaded then when the conversion takes place the newly registered custom content types in TablePress will get automatically posted to the users Facebook Location. there is a place in the Add Link to FaceBook plugin to stop some featured of Add Link to FaceBook from applying to custom Content types, but I am unsure at this time if it applies on import or newly created tables (untested). - This is not an endorsement of ALtFb, just it is really popular and I do use it....

    Hello Hugh,

thanks a lot for this information! I can indeed see how this could cause unwanted behavior...
This will probably happen whenever a table is added or imported in TablePress, as that's when a new Custom Post Type post is created.

Unfortunately, I don't really see anything that I could change about this in TablePress. Instead, it would probably a good idea for the Facebook links plugin to not post links to Facebook for Custom Post Types, by default...

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

The next version of Add Link to Facebook will have a new option 'Do not add links for custom post types', which will be enabled by default for new installations. Add Link to Facebook was created in a time custom post types were not used that much as nowadays and in the beginning it was mostly desirable to have links for custom post types. Since this feature (or bug if you like) can leak personal information to Facebook or can cause a lot of inconvenience I have changed the default behavior now.

Guys, Thanks for being aware and knowing what is going on. Rock on with the professionalism - both of you. My wife says: "step away from the computer... it is Christmas.... enjoy the family...."

    Hi,

Marcel, thanks for that! That sounds reasonable and is probably the best solution! :-)

Hugh, yep, that's true! :-) Merry Christmas!

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
