I’ve been running WPMS for years and setup all the sites as cPanel/WHM “Parked Domains”. Now I am starting to enable the https protocol for some of the sites by installing SSL/TLS Certs on my VPS Server.

In order to install an SSL Cert on a VPS through cPanel, my hosts (a.k.a., WPMS sites) need to be addon domains and not parked domains. Through research I am starting to understand the technical differences between an addon and parked domain with respect to the VPS and cPanel/WHM.

Now my WordPress question is this:

Solely from a WordPress service perspective, what difference or impact or preferred method is “best practice” for domains in WP? Addons or Parked?

Hoping to start a thread here for others to use when deciding on how best to setup a WPMS Network. Thank you.

  • From a WordPress-only point of view, there’s no difference at all. Any processing for the end-point the different domain names is done by the web server before any requests even get ot the WordPress system.

Thank you @catacaustic. That’s exactly what I thought and the answer I was anticipating. But, for the record, I thought it would be a good idea to formally get that confirmation and to have a post “out there” for others to see if/when they are curious or concerned about the same matter.

    I appreciate your confirmation!
