    Hi there,

We’ve created a coupon called PRO20 which gives a 20% discount over 200€ in products, for a specific group of users defined by their e-mail, as it is defined in the Usage Limits > Allowed emails (so only these users can be allowed to use the coupon).

What happens is that a not logged-in user can also use the coupon (as i’ve tested it myself), and that shouldn’t happen. Am i doing anything wrong, is this a bug, or am i missing something in the coupon configuration?

    Thanks,
    Pedro P

    Hi @vossalab,

Please note that while the coupon appears to be successfully applied on the cart page, when the customer attempts to check out the coupon is removed and the error message “Sorry, it seems the coupon is not yours – it has now been removed from your order” is displayed.

I understand that this is confusing. However, the coupon verification is done on the placing order step as this is when the billing details are verified and the billing email is used for the coupon validation. The coupon isn’t validated against the email address on the cart page and that’s why it appears to be successfully applied. However, it’s removed from the order once verified on the checkout page during the placing order step.

There’s a bug report on this issue and there are suggestions to validate the coupon on the cart page to avoid the current confusion. You can monitor the progress here: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/26289

    I hope this helps!
