    After upgrading from 3.4.1 to 3.4.2, countries of sites are frequently identified as “unknown”. And, this phenomenon is still observed in version 3.5.

    For example, even though host name “degw.cs.ritsumei.ac.jp” is resolved, the country of the site is identified as “unknown.”, if the version is later then 3.4.2.

    Does anyone have good idea to fix this problem?

    WP SlimStat uses a third-party database provided by MaxMind.com to geolocate a given IP Address. You can always buy the premium version from them, if the accuracy of the free one is not good enough for you.

    This problem was observed even if I copied the file “wp-slimstat/databases/maxmind.dat” in version 3.4.1 to the later version. So, I consider that this problem is not due to the databases.

    As in carbeck’s response, this would be because IP addresses are wrongly re-written. I will wait the problem in the thread http://wordpress.org/support/topic/1272552550-1 .

    Okay, marking topic as not resolved. I will try to implement a workaround for those like you, whose server runs a 32-bit Operating System.

    I sent carbeck what we think is a fix for this bug (related to 32-bit operating systems or old versions of PHP). tkamishima, contact us if you want to test this new version in advance. We’ll release it next week.

    Version 3.5.1 is out 😉 Let us know if it fixes the issue for you guys.

    Issues are not yet checked fully, because the number of accesses to my site is drastically reduced due to new year holidays.
    However, no problems were found in my access log. Probably, this issue is fixed.
