• Hi, I’m having difficulty uploading some images – I’ve checked the image is a jpg, tried resaving it (using Mac Preview), checked it’s RGB – nothing seems to help. I can upload other images from my hard disk, just not this one, and one or two others.

    Errors are –

Warning: imagecreatefromstring(): Passed data is not in ‘JPEG’ format in /web/sites/user/2/227/69170/public/www/eastcastle/wp-includes/media.php on line 253

Warning: imagecreatefromstring(): Couldn’t create GD Image Stream out of Data in /web/sites/user/2/227/69170/public/www/eastcastle/wp-includes/media.php on line 253

[Remaining error messages moderated as they’re all the same]

  • Passed data is not in ‘JPEG’ format

The images that you’re uploading are not true .jpg files.

thanks esmi. could you help me a little bit more, please, to help me resolve this. i’ve checked the image in every browser i can get my hands on, both PC and Mac, and they all open it.i tried resaving it using a PC picture editor and a mac picture editor, and neither had a problem with it – so how come wordpress is telling me it’s not a real jpeg?

if i ignore the error, the picture shows up in the media library, but there are no resize options.

Ensure that you re-save the images using standard encoding or optimised for web.

here’s my settings in photoshop’s save for web dialog box – failed jpg. However, I tried uploading to a different wordpress site of mine, and it worked okay. the original still didn’t, but the resaved version did.

is it possible there’s some install/server misconfiguration which is causing this? i even tried auto-reinstalling wordpress, which didn’t help.

    i’ve also been having

Warning: imagecopyresampled(): 166 is not a valid Image resource in /web/sites/user/2/227/69170/public/www/eastcastle/wp-includes/media.php on line 423
