Could not get the plugin working

    Hi, I tried to install W3 cache, but unfortunately I got the following errors?
    FTP credentials don’t allow to write to file /var/www/vhosts/
    W3 Total Cache Error: Files and directories could not be automatically created to complete the installation.

    I tried to update via FTP ,but nothing happened. I know this is a very popular plugin, but I have heard that if you add any new plugins or widgets after installing W3 to your web site W3 can break your site. Is this true? I don’t write code so I’m not sure how to fix this. Any help is welcome. Many thanks.
