 * I am having an issue when I try to add/update plugins for a customer who has
   hosting set up with a company I have never used before.
 * I have FTP’d the site via FileZilla and the /public_html/wp-content/plugins folder
   is set to 755 as are all of its subdirectories, I have even tried the more open
   777 but still no joy. When the site went live last week it was fine and I was
   updating plugins but now it’s not with no intervention or changes from me.
 * Is there anything else I should be checking?

 * It might help if you posted the actual error message.

 * Try this article first:
    [http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/update-wordpress-without-ftp/](http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/update-wordpress-without-ftp/)
 * If it’s not a fix, check the space on the website’s drive
    If there is enough
   space then it seems to be a server config issue, contact the host, tell them
   the error you have and let them check it.
 * I assume you don’t have access to php.ini (if you do let us know!)
 * Also check this topic for other things you might try:

 * I am having similar issues as Keith and have tried the many fixes being suggested
   but to no avail. I set up my question on [this page](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/ftp-update-coreplugin-issues-could-not-remove-the-old-plugin?replies=4),
   but without any answers either.
 * [jnhghy](https://wordpress.org/support/profile/jnhghy), I have seen my php.ini
   and can ask my webhost to make changes. What should I be looking at on there?

 * I had this issue on a LAMP server. For me, it turned out to be an issue with
   low disk space. I had to clear out space to resolve this issue.
