    I’m a web designer. Since yesterday I have tried to use SMTP on three of my sites but sending test email gives error “Could not connect to the SMTP host.”

    All of my settings are correct for email addresses of icloud, rogers, bell, and individual hosts.

    Is there a bug? I have never had this problem before and am using it on many sites.

    Thanks!

    Hello @vitaminik, @ma3ry

    The error means that the plugin is unable to connect to the SMTP host you’ve specified, likely because your server blocked the connection. Please share the full error log recorded when you send a test email from WP Mail SMTP > Email Test? Here’s a screenshot for the option to get a full error log. This will give us an idea of what might be going on.

    Thanks!

    Thank you. You are quite right. I received a response from cPanel as to how to fix it, which I will post here for others. They say:

    I see you are using CSF firewall on your server. You will want to open the following file on your server.

    /etc/csf/csf.conf

    From there, find the line that starts with this.

    TCP_OUT

    And then you will add the ports to the end of the line, separated by commas before saving out of the file. The line should look like this once done.

    TCP_OUT = “20,21,22,25,37,43,53,80,110,113,443,587,873,993,995,2086,2087,2089,2703,465,587”

    Once done, restart CSF with this command.

    csf -r

    I hope this is helpful to others.
