  • Sorry to cross post this from the general themes forum, but I didnt realize there was a more specific forum dedicated just to Coraline per se…

    Anyway, the Coraline (v1.4.2) theme has several (up to four) widget areas, as well as the header and footer… and, of course, you can set a background to the page template under Appearance->Customize->Colors and/or Background Image… But a problem occurs at this point…

    I want to use a background tile for my main pattern, which is easy enough, but the problem is with the header, widgets and footer backgrounds – which are transparent… I would like them to be a plain old opaque white…

    Is there a way to do this?

    Thanks

    Wilbert

    Hi Wilbert, there is an overall container div parent for all the content area with an CSS id of #container. You can set that to white with the following and then your background image will appear to the left and right of that.

    #container {
        background-color: #fff;
        clear: both;
        margin: 0 auto;
    }

    Since you did not give a link to your site I wasn’t able to see if you are using a child theme at this point. If you have not yet done so, I would suggest creating a child theme so that any customizations you make will not be overwritten by a future theme update. Alternately you can use the Edit CSS function in the Jetpack plugin (Appearance > Edit CSS), or use one of the other Custom CSS plugins that will keep CSS changes from being overwritten.

    Jetpack plugin
    Child Themes
    Child Theme creation plugins
    Custom CSS plugins
