    Hello there,
I had wordpress installed and I created a site. I backed up the entire FTP with the WP contents.

I switched to a new URL which is a subdomain of the URL i created the website in. I installed WP in the subdomains folder. I then copied the FTP files from the old WP over the new WP installed files. (probably where something went wrong, but how to I do this correctly?)

I can log in to my worpress, but none of the settings or pages are there. The files are in the FTP but they aren't being used?

So how do I get this to work again :(

Note: I cant export the site because its kinda gone, just have the files. I've read a lot of help guides on the search and replace, and i've installed the tool but it doesnt find my old URL in any of the files. I'm stuck :(

ANY help is much appreciated. Thank you!

    I solved my problem.

Had to do fresh install of WP into subdirectory, replace WP_content folder, follow the instructions in wp-config-sample.php

    left index.php alone

and then followed these instructions to fix a second problem I was having
