    Hello!

I guess I will need to create a bug report for this but I have never done that before. Can you tell me

    1. Is this something I should report
    2. Where to report

    How to recreate

    1. Add new page
    2. from spreadsheet (external program) copy the contents of a cell that is to become the page title
    3. Paste (using ctrl-v or ctrl-shift-v) into the page title field on the new page

Expected Result: contents of the copied cell would become the title of the page.

Actual Result: Instead of pasting the text of the cell (as it had done prior to 5.5) it skips away from the title title field and instead creates a one cell block on the body of the page. Title field remains empty.

Surely this can’t be the correct behaviour. I can understand if one was trying to paste an image into the title field that it would do something like this. But text? No.

    This worked fine before 5.5.

    What should I do? Thanks.

  • Hello @bhkh,

If you’re sure that this worked before 5.5, you can report the bug by following the instructions found here: https://make.wordpress.org/core/handbook/testing/reporting-bugs/.

I thought that there may also have been a plugin or theme conflict on your site.

However, after disabling my plugins and using the WordPress Twenty Twenty theme, I copy/pasted a field from a spreadsheet into Gutenberg’s Title section, and I had the same issue.

    I get this:

Gutenberg appears to detect the formatting copied from the spreadsheet:

Thanks for trying. I followed your instructions and it worked on a clean site no plugins standard theme. I am 1000% sure it worked before 5.5 since I use a very exact process for creating new posts and it always involves copying from a spreadsheet cell to create the title. The odd thing is that even shift+ctrl+v doesn’t work.

Thanks so much for your detailed response. I will try to post the bug.

    You’re very welcome!

That’s interesting. It worked when I right-clicked and selected “Paste as plain text” and when I did “Ctrl+Shift+V”.
