• Great for experimenting, because you can make a copy of your site and mess around. But it’s impossible to migrate back with the free version. There is a way, it’s detailed in the manual but it’s just super hard and messy.

Honestly, this plugin would be superb if the premium version was more affordable.

    Why only 2 stars?
You need premium to make real use of it.
The price of the premium is absolutely ridiculous. It’s silly.

Like I have a simple portfolio or business site that’s updated once in a decade, I don’t want to spend 500 EUR/$ every year on that if that makes sense. I don’t make money from this, I don’t think most WP users make a living out of just installing or maintaining a WP site. What’s a reasonable price? I’d pay maybe 10$ a year, or a one-time fee.

And to top that off, the very expensive price only covers 1 website. 1.

Do get proper money from companies, or people who make money off the plugin, but me, a regular Joe who wants to update their mom’s recipe website without breaking it first… it’s crazy.

Sorry guys. The plugin is great by the way, but I hope one day you will have a reasonable pricing model.

Ps.: This is my first WP rating/review.

    Hi,

Thanks for your very detailed and honest feedback.

The minimum price for the pro version is 89 EUR (July 2022). Where did you see a price of 500 USD?

The pro version of the plugin is a full very efficient backup solution and delivers much more features than the ability to push your staging site to live.

If it is too pricy for you and you don’t have a commercial website as you said, please get in contact with me at [redacted] and I will create a special plan for you.

    Cheers
    René, founder of WP Staging.

Btw. All further requests/feedback about our pro version should be handled through our mail address and not WordPress.org.

@renehermi This is a very edge case but two things. First, it’s fine to send people to your site for pro prices etc, but … Second? You can’t give them your email.

I know it makes sense to here, and it should be okay, but the problem is a lot of other devs don’t get the difference between “Email me!” and “email me in this one specific moment because it has nothing to do with WP.org” The former group of people lead to users giving admin access to strangers, and that way ends badly for everyone.

https://wp-staging.com/#pricing has a link to https://wp-staging.com/support/ so perhaps asking them to use that form and link to this thread? Or they can link to ‘presale’ which I see is an option on the contact page 🙂

Sorry for causing trouble, and I appreciate the reply, Rene.

Not sure how to better explain it. I’d love to have the plugin, use it, and rely on it. But like many IT guys, I just “manage” WP sites for friends, and family. Which (thanks to WP) costs close to 0$, because they only have to pay for the domain they want. But, these sites also net me… guess how much? 0$. And let’s say I have a cooking blog, I have an IT blog, and my friend has a basic farm website. 3 sites, barely any visitors on them, and none of them make any $.

This plugin makes it a breeze if I want to change the design, or do something, but I don’t want to entirely mess up the main page.

What I am trying to say is, that it’d be great if there was a cheap, affordable option. Like the masses would just cough it up to support this masterpiece and that’s it.
You guys can track installations, and have the metrics. Just simply track installations and if someone uses it for a large site or e-commerce or you see the same IP doing a dozen installations and so on… revoke the license + contact them, and tell them this is NOT the “basic” license for. If that makes sense.

Ps.: I worked at a large firm that creates super expensive software and we had so many pirated versions out there. But we saw who uses them, which locations, firms, IPs. We would contact the abusers, and tell them the situation. Most happily purchased a license after that. But we didn’t nag the little Joe who just pirated it to learn how to use it if that makes sense.

@ubgcledjegy Thanks for your reply. You have shared an interesting idea that I will discuss with my team.

My offer is still valid; if you like to talk with me in private about this you can contact me directly at: https://wp-staging.com/support/

@ipstenu Sure thing. I will ensure not to use our email address here again.😘
