• Hi

I downloaded WordPress last week and set it up aqnd logged in fine. However i have now gone to log in on another computer and i keep getting this message ‘ERROR: WordPress requires Cookies but your browser does not support them or they are blocked.’ The cookies on my browser have definitely been enabled, i have cleared them and refreshed but still the same thing happens, I have tried this on both Firefox and IE7 on a PC. Do you know why this is happening?

    Thanks

    Maz

Provide a link to the site so that we can see the problem ourselves. No need to give us a login, just the URL.

Most of the time, the cookie error is a symptom of a deeper underlying problem.

You have your main URL options set incorrectly, somehow.

I’m seeing the cookie come back with a path of /blog/. However, your wp-login.php is not under /blog/, it’s in the root directory.

What are the values of WordPress address (URL): and Blog address (URL): on Options->General? See, you can’t just put the files anywhere you like. You must have the correct settings in the Options->General page before putting the files in those locations.

i thought i did put them in the correct path.. I can’t log on to the admin here to get the correct settings, i will have to do it later on tonight, and i will get back to you then..

Hi, me again… I have uploaded the files again but this time i have put them in the root folder and i am still getting the same message. I can’t get into the admin so i can’t see what the settings are, but if i remember correctly the blog address is http://www.lolajaye.com/blog
I was able to get into the admin page last week and i haven’t changed anything since then…

Where you put the files is not really the important bit here. Well, it is, but not in that way.

You can probably get to the admin screen through this page:
    http://www.lolajaye.com/blog/wp-login.php

Putting the files in the root folder is what you don’t want to do. You want them in the blog folder, given your current settings. If you want them in the root folder, you’ll have to change the settings on Options->General and then move the files to the root folder.

Well, that site is pointing the wp-login.php back to the root, which it should not do.

The short answer is that your site is screwed. It’s not running standard code and I don’t know what to tell you. Your site should be in /blog, but you’ve uploaded to the root, and there’s two wp-login.php files, and frankly I’d be hard pressed to sort it out myself.

I’d make a backup of your site, keep a copy of wp-config.php, then delete the site and reinstall it, to the blog folder, fresh. Your content won’t be lost and you can put your theme back afterwards.
