converting single blog to multisite

  • HI … I have a single blog running on 2.9.2
Is it possible to upgrade it to 3.0 with multisite option ?
If yes pls point me to the documentation for doing the same without loosing the existing content. Thnx 🙂

    Well, upgrade to 3.0 first.

Ask your webhost if they support wildcard subdomains if you want subdomains. Tell them you’ll be enabling the network in case they don;t support it.

    Then do this:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

Thanks but the problem now is that there is no option for subdirectory install if one is updating an existing individual blog to multisite.
In create network … it says “Sub-domain Install Because your install is not new, the sites in your WordPress network must use sub-domains. The main site in a sub-directory install will need to use a modified permalink structure, potentially breaking existing links.”

But I want sub-directory option. What can I do ?

You can force it, which may or may not be a good idea.

Then you can choose to have all your main blog’s permalinks change, or use a plugin to remove the /blog/ which as stated in another thread may cause conflicts if someone names a blog the same as one of your pages. 😉
