Converting my blog page to becoming a blog overview page

Hello wordpress community, I want to pick your brains about a problem i’m having with the blog section of my website. My current setup is 3.3.1 with a static home page and a post page for my blog.

My question is when i add posts they are displayed within the blog page in full, rather than (what i’ve seen on other sites) where the blog page is just a overview with snippets of each post and a heading that links you to the full article.

Where would i start with converting my blog page to becoming a blog overview page.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated ^_^
