I have a single WordPress installation & I want to activate Multisite with subdirectory (to translate in a second language). Page are ranking well & getting quite a few visit a month.

When I try to activate Multisite network, I have a warning that basically say "main website installed in a subdirectory will have a custom permalink structure, which might broke some existing link" (I'm translating from french..)

I guess that's because of the slug /blog that is automatically added to the existing site permalink ? How can I enable Multisite without loosing all my Pagerank on the existing site ?

  2. Use .htaccess redirects to send the old URLs to /blog

See, only your POSTS will get that :) So they'll change from foo.com/folder/2014/02/dancing/ to foo.com/folder/blog/2014/02/dancing/

Thus all you have to do is check for YYYY/MM/(anything) and redirect them.

So if the website doesn't have any post but just static page (that's a small business website) I don't have to redirects anything ?

Will I get the /blog slug on static page ? (I just want to avoid that, even on static page, it just doesn't look very professional for a business...)

  4. So if the website doesn't have any post but just static page (that's a small business website) I don't have to redirects anything ?

The home page will remain foo.com/folder

    PAGES will remain foo.com/folder/pagename

so yes, that should be fine :)
