Convert Self-Hosted Site to Existing GoDaddy Domain
-
Hello all,
This is my first post on the forums so please go easy on me. I got into WP a couple of years ago. Ive played around with it for a while and initially I installed it locally on my Mac to learn how to use it. I built my first site and learned a little about WP then started working on another site for my brother-in-law who already has a live site through GoDaddy. I ended up adding his site to my local WP and built it from there.
Everything looks good and now I feel like Im ready to go live to his GoDaddy account. Here is were Im not really sure what do to.
When I log into his GoDaddy site I see I can add the WP app then I assume I can FTP all the files needed to GoDaddy, however in the mean time will adding the WP app bring down his current site? Or will that not happen until I point something to the new Index page?
Also, how are updates to the site usually handled? Do I perform them locally on my machine, then re-FTP them every time I have an update?
Im also confused about links to the media in my local build, when I FTP the pages to GoDaddy wont it still be looking for the media locally? How is this handled?
And last but not least, how do I now go about starting a DIFFERENT site? Do I install another appearance of WP so I can begin creating a new site for someone else?
I really don’t feel comfortable with this setup yet, so any additional info/links on this topic would be appreciated also.
Thanks in advance for any advice, guidance or suggestions.
